🥳 This week, Andy Beshear, Kentucky’s Governor signed Senate Bill 73! This bill makes sexual extortion a crime, meaning it’s illegal to threaten or pressure someone into sexual acts (including sending nude photos or videos!) against their will. In this bill, schools are required to inform students & parents about sexual extortion and display posters with resources for help. This is a massive win for anti-child exploitation! Visiting your youth twice a month and touching base by text or call once a week. -What if I am uncertain about my capacity to mentor right now, but I am still interested? You will meet or have a phone call with a staff member to answer any questions you may have. You aren’t making a commitment by expressing interest or even attending the training! — if I am busy in this season, should I still get my training started? Absolutely! Just because you go through the training and are fully onboarded, doesn’t mean you will even be paired right away. Mentors have had to wait sometimes months or more to be paired, but getting the onboarding process started will help you be ready whenever you are at the capacity to mentor!

Our state is investigating over 300 suspected cases every single year. With so much misunderstanding of modern-day trafficking, you can be sure that's a tremendous underestimation. Without you, we lose 💛 “You are the only thing they have.” I never expected to hear those words from two FBI agents sitting in my office. A supervisor was making a visit to Kentucky, and the Louisville agent wanted to make sure they visited one of their local partners- Safe Passage. “I wish we had something like this everywhere”, said the supervisor. They had stopped by to hear updates on the victims they had referred to our mentorship program. One year ago, we showed up to what the agent described as her “worst case ever”. When we began working with this young girl, she told us that she liked her life. She liked the alcohol, partying, drugs, men, and sex for money. It is HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY. A family member to one of our youth survivors called to ask, “What is human trafficking?” On today of all days- human trafficking awareness day. When your son, daughter, niece, nephew, or grandchild has been trafficked- would you know? Victims describe being confused. “I didn’t know what was happening.” Please help us to reach these youth through prevention and mentorship services. We have youth who are finding their voices and telling their stories, through media- poems- writing- they are sharing their stories about what happened. It was human trafficking- Actually- it was child trafficking. ❌❌❌❌❌ We are working to prevent and end child trafficking. Today, we onboarded a new mentor / mentee match to support a youth survivor! We met with our amazing law enforcement partners to lock arms! We touched base with our families and youth, continuing to support them each and every day. This is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. “Can you stay longer next week?” They just tug right at our heart strings. 🤍😭 We have kiddos who are depressed, suicidal, they constantly run away or self harm. And in the midst of it all, they don’t have any real friends. Can you imagine having deep trauma … and no friends, no support system? Some of our youth beg to see us twice a week because they are just lonely. 🫂💔 When we drop them off, many of them don’t want to go home. When they are in our car, it’s the only time of the week they feel Seen. Loved. Supported. Understood. Safe. Accepted.
